The Board of Directors of the Florida Independent Living Council, Inc. (FILC, Inc.) appointed several youth from around the state of Florida to their Youth Advisory Committee.  The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was developed to give the Council a true perspective about the challenges and needs of Florida’s youth with disabilities.  The YAC plays an important role in assisting FILC, Inc. accomplish Florida’s State Plan for Independent Living.

The Youth Advisory Committee members are emerging leaders in the state of Florida with disabilities and between the ages of 15 and 30.

YAC’s mission is to get youth involved in self-advocacy, peer mentoring and other activities that will improve the quality of life for youth with disabilities.  The YAC empowers youth to fact find what issues are important to their generation, to convey their findings to the Florida Independent Living Council, Inc., to express those issues in their state and local communities, and to develop strategies to solve them.

If you are interested in taking a leadership role advocating for youth in Florida then this might be for you!  Can you: Participate in monthly teleconferences? Participate in face to face YAC meetings, which will involve travel to location? Participate or present in local community events? Provide advice and input on various YAC activities?  If so, complete an application and mail it in!
